This wiki has been updated 12 times since it was first published in January of 2020. This list of scales is for those who need accurate measurements while weighing small objects or fine powders, but who don't want to purchase an expensive piece of lab equipment. We've covered a wide range of options, from pocket sized devices that detect differences of a single milligram to versatile models that can handle everything between a hundredth of a gram and 3/4 of a kilo. When users buy our independently chosen editorial choices, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes
February 27, 2020:
In the world of accurate digital scales there is a noticeable gap between lab-worthy products that cost hundreds, and consumer models that are mostly under $40. We focused on the latter category given that it's what most people are looking for, but it's actually quite difficult to find precision to the milligram in this price range. Those who need to measure items or weight differences that are less than a hundredth of a gram only need to look at options like the Smart Weigh Premium High Precision Scale, Smart Weigh GEM20 High Precision Digital Scale, Homgeek Digital Milligram Pocket Scale, and Newacalox Digital Milligram Scale.
For those who are comfortable with accuracy that only extends to amounts larger than 10 milligrams, the American Weigh Scales AWS-100 and Brifit Digital Mini offer affordable prices and portable form factors.
The GreaterGoods Digital Pocket Scale, Zibet Rechargeable Digital Food Scale, and Amir Upgraded Digital Kitchen Scale sacrifice precision even further, only offering one or two decimal places while measuring in grams, but they provide much larger maximum capacities. All of them would make a great choice for someone who needs a versatile tool that can handle relatively big and small objects alike, but they're less than ideal for those who frequently measure items that weigh less than 1 gram.
