As the home to countless renowned restaurants, New York is a foodie's playground. With exciting and innovative eateries that specialize in everything from old-world Italian to contemporary Mexican cuisine, there is something to satisfy every palate. For food aficionados seeking the city's hottest dining spots, here, in no particular order, are six of the top gourmet destinations in the Big Apple.

Starting off the list at #1 is Lilia, which brings the best of Italy to the Williamsburg neighborhood in Brooklyn. The restaurant features wood-fired seafood, hand-crafted pastas, and classic Italian cocktails in a casual dining environment. Popular dishes include Mussels with Herb Butter, Sheep's Milk Cheese-Filled Agnolotti with Saffron, Dried Tomato, and Honey, and Radishes with Whipped Ricotta, Olive Oil, and Sea Salt.

Owner Missy Robbins was Executive Chef at Spiaggia in Chicago, where she focused her skills on Italian fine dining. She served in the same capacity at A Voce Madison and A Voce Columbus in New York, where she maintained Michelin stars at both locations for the entirety of her tenure. Robbins has also been honored as one of Food and Wine Magazine's Best New Chefs.

Coming in at #2 is Loring Place, located in the heart of New York's Greenwich Village. Led by Chef Dan Kluger, the restaurant's menu, comprised of small and large shareable plates, spotlights farms and farmers from the Union Square Greenmarket. Dishes include Baked Ricotta, Slowly Cooked Halibut with Cauliflower and Herb Vinaigrette, and a Soppressata and Sausage Calzone. The bar features hand-crafted cocktails, artisanal beers, and local spirits.

Chef Kluger has cooked in some of New York's most famous restaurants for the city's top restaurateurs. He is most known for leading the teams at ABC Kitchen and ABC Cocina, the latter being named Best New Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation. He began his career at Union Square Hospitality Group before moving on to Indian eatery Tabla.

Entering the list at #3 is Empellon, which includes restaurants in the East and West Village, Murray Hill, and Midtown Manhattan. The eatery serves contemporary American cuisine with Mexican influences and a distinct New York City point of view. It offers catering services, group dining options, and accommodations for special events.

Popular dishes include Honey Glazed Sweet Potato with Brown Butter Crema, Short Rib Confit with Potatoes and Picadillo Garnish, and Coconut Bonbons. At #4 is Via Carota, located in the West Village and founded by Rita Sodi and Jody Williams, who were chosen as James Beard Awards Finalists for Best New Chefs in New York City. Williams is also the author of Buvette: The Pleasure of Good Food, and has written for Saveur and Esopus. In addition, the eatery has been featured in the Michelin Guide, a renowned restaurant reference directory.

Inspired by the 17th-century villa in the hills near Florence which Sodi once called home, Via Carota honors old-world Italian roots, lifestyle, food and decor. There is an extensive wine list along with a variety of Negroni cocktails. Among the menu items are Grilled Artichokes with Aioli, Sicilian Meatballs with Pine Nuts and Raisins, and Fried Rabbit with Rosemary and Garlic.

He honed his grilling skills at Smoking Lil's in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, eventually becoming executive chef, before moving on to the Jules Thin Crust pizza chain. After introducing his slow-smoked creations at a local food market, Mangum ultimately opened his flagship eatery in Manhattan's East Village.

Favorite menu items include Pulled Pork, Spare Ribs, and its signature dish, Brontosaurus Rib. Catering packages are also available.
