Kim Kardashian on Social Media
Rising to fame on E Network's "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," Kimberly Kardashian West is a reality television star, businesswoman, and model who has transformed her name into a million-dollar brand. With a strong and influential presence on social media, the socialite has gained millions of followers, including celebrities, on popular platforms, such as Instagram.
Kim has released a wide range of products associated with her name, including beauty items, a perfume line, and mobile games, among others. Her marriage to rapper Kanye West has also brought on significant media interest in her personal life; the couple exchanged wedding vows in 2014 and share two kids together.
Born on October 21, 1980, Kim was raised by parents, Robert and Kris, together with sisters Kourtney and Khloe, and their brother Rob, in Los Angeles, California. Following their parents' separation in 1991, their mother got married in the same year to Caitlyn Jenner, who was then known as Bruce Jenner- the decathlon champion in the 1976 Summer Olympics. With this marriage, Kris gave birth to Kim's half-sisters, Kendall and Kylie.
In her teenage years, Kim went to an exclusive Roman Catholic girls' school, Marymount High School. During this time, her prominent lawyer father was one of the legal representatives for football player O.J. Simpson's murder trial. Robert died of esophageal cancer in October 2003.
During her 20's, she became the stylist of socialite Paris Hilton, a classmate from preschool. Becoming a close friend of Paris helped to bolster Kim's career.
In 2004, Kim also worked as a full-time stylist for R and B singer Brandy. Over time, she became a personal shopper for actress Lindsay Lohan. During these years, the Kardashian sisters decided to focus on business ventures, including the opening of their fashion store, DASH, in Calabasas, California.
In 2007, a video of Kim and rapper Ray J in bed was obtained by the adult film company, Vivid Entertainment, which offered $1 million to gain exclusive rights to the sex tape. Vivid titled the video "Kim Kardashian Superstar" and promoted its release. The businesswoman responded with immediate legal action and brought charges of invasion of privacy. Three months following the tape's release, she settled for a $5 million agreement with the company.
Later that year, Kim and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner family began appearing in the reality TV series, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" by E! Produced by Ryan Seacrest, the show brought on significant success for the network, and has resulted in the production of spinoffs, such as "Kourtney and Kim Take New York," "Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons," and "Life of Kylie."
Focusing mainly on the Kardashian-Jenner clan, the longtime-running reality series has also featured the family members' romantic partners, such as Kim's ex-husband, Kris Humphries, and Kourtney's former boyfriend and father of her children, Scott Disick. Khloe's ex-partner, NBA player Lamar Odom, also appeared on the show. Kim's close pal, Jonathan Cheban, and the sisters' good friend, Malika Haqq, took part in the series as well.
The E reality series has been met with poor critical reviews since the first season's premiere. Most often, the show has been criticized for seemingly faking certain scenes and for giving unnecessary publicity to privileged individuals. However, others have recognized the family members' success brought on by not only the series but by their business ventures and work commitments as well. "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" has already raked in high ratings and won a number of audience awards.
Becoming a constant name in the headlines, Kim's relationships were also of great interest to the public. In 2000, she tied the knot with music producer Damon Thomas when she was 20 years old. However, the couple called it quits after four years. Following their separation, the reality TV star dated several famous individuals, such as former 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey and New Orleans Saints player Reggie Bush.
In May 2011, Kim had a publicized engagement to then New Jersey Nets player Kris Humphries. The couple had already begun dating earlier in 2010. However, her whirlwind marriage to the NBA star was deemed a publicity stunt to promote the Kardashian brand, lasting for only 72 days.
In 2012, the social celebrity began dating rapper and close friend Kanye West while she had a pending divorce with Kris. She gave birth to daughter North West on June 15, 2013, only 12 days after the divorce was finalized. Kim and Kanye got engaged on her 33rd birthday. They finally exchanged wedding vows months later in Florence, Italy. In the following year, she gave birth to their second child, Saint West.
While Kim shares Armenian roots with her father Robert, she cannot speak the native language. She did express her support for the Armenian Genocide to be recognized by the U.S. In 2015, she took a trip to the country with Kanye, North, and Khloe to visit a genocide memorial in Yerevan.
In 2014, Kim was estimated to have made $28 million. In the following year, her earnings reportedly reached $53 million. Her money can be attributed to a wide range of sources. The Kardashian Kollection, her cosmetics line, DASH stores, ShoeDazzle, and sponsored posts on Instagram and Twitter all contribute to her growing wealth.
