Kolpin Guardian 91163 The Kolpin Guardian 91163 makes an ideal toolbox thanks to a segregated main compartment and a three-pocket lid organizer. It is a good choice for those who don't want anything too large or bulky on their ride, and it can just as easily be mounted to the front as the back, thanks to its low profile. kolpin.com

Editor's Notes

February 25, 2021:

ATV rear storage boxes come in a variety of styles, and we wanted our recommendations to highlight that. In the same line of thinking, we decided to eliminate models that were too similar to one another, as having options that are almost identical adds no value for our readers. With this in mind we removed the Tamarack Titan Deluxe Lounger, as it doesn't offer anything different than the Wes Comfort Standard, but the latter is equipped with a rear brake light. The Black Boar 66010, which is a new addition, is also a similar option and we like it better than the Titan Deluxe because of its stronger lock and segregated storage compartments.

The ATV Tek Arch Series 45-2606 might not technically be considered a box, but it does mount to the rear of an ATV and offers a lot of storage space, so we feel comfortable lumping it into the same category. It is also slightly more versatile than the hard options, as the pliable material can be stuffed fuller. Also, it features bungee straps on the top for attaching additional gear, and a handy water bottle pocket that can be easily accessed when riding.

Those who don't often have a passenger on the back and simply want to add storage space in a reliable container can look to the UWS Chest, Lund 288271 Challenger Series Brite, and Kolpin Trail Box 93201. The first two are crafted from rustproof aluminum, though the AWS model is a bit thicker and has a sturdier lock. The Kolpin Trail Box 93201 is made from a low-density polyethylene that stands up to the elements well, and it has the added bonus of reflectors for nighttime safety.

December 03, 2018:

Added the Black Widow Cargo for its secure lid system as well as the Lounger model for its polyethylene construction. While more traditionally-shaped, the UWS Chest offers superior offroad durability, thanks to its foam-filled lid and corrosion-resistant aluminum exterior. The Tamarack Titan Deluxe Lounger offers sturdy steel latches and an LED brake light. Also included the Wes Comfort Standard and Kimpex Nomad for their modular designs.
