Updated May 15, 2020 by Sam Kraft

This wiki has been updated 22 times since it was first published in March of 2018. If your children show a passion or aptitude for sports at a young age, it can’t hurt for them to start developing their skills early on. These basketball hoops are designed specifically for kids, and many of them have adjustable heights to cater to youngsters of various ages. While some are best suited for use outdoors, several freestanding and door-mounted models can be used inside. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Flaghouse Rimball Supported by four steel legs with the rim and net in the center, this is not your traditional basketball hoop. While some players may miss the backboard for bank shots, plenty of kids will love the ability to shoot from any direction. It can be adjusted to four, five or six feet in height. flaghouse.com

Little Movers 5-Hoop Goal An entertaining choice for play dates at the house or activity time at daycare, this unusual-looking structure will allow several little children to get balls in the air at the same time. Each of its five rims is set at a different height, and its powder-coated metal tubing helps it withstand outdoor use. pwap.com

Murray Sporting Goods Mini When the driveway hoop spends the winter months collecting snowflakes, nothing staves off the boredom for a young basketball enthusiast like a good over-the-door model. Its breakaway rim will endure repeated dunks, and its strong padded clips won’t damage the door’s finish. murraysportinggoods.com

Editor's Notes

May 14, 2020:

Noting reports of an unstable, leaky base, a fragile backboard and a low-quality net that usually breaks down within months, we eliminated the Best Choice Portable from the list. We removed the Yaheetech Junior and Little Tikes Jam Pro due to quality concerns as well.

Updated the listing for the Rawlings Game On to display the newest available version of the item, which now comes with an air pump for the ball. In reviewing the Little Tikes EasyScore, we confirmed that issues with the rim detaching from the backboard do indeed exist, and we discovered that the net tends to fall off sometimes as well. Therefore, you will probably have to tinker with this model a bit more than some others. We also pointed out that although the Fisher-Price Grow-to-Pro comes with a lightweight, somewhat flimsy ball, its strong rim can handle a more substantial ball if you choose to replace the original.

We added a mixture of styles to the list, including over-the-door hoops, an outdoor portable model on wheels (the Zeny Youth), and a versatile hoop that can be mounted to most poles and posts (the Silverback Lock ‘n Rock). The Silverback model features a foldable rim, which comes in quite handy for storage purposes.

We noted that the Sklz Pro Mini offers a glow-in-the-dark version, which can add a fun twist to slumber parties. If your bedroom shares a wall with the kiddo’s, however, you may want to think carefully about that one.
