The 10 Best Compression Stuff Sacks
Editor's Notes
June 23, 2020:
Those who take part in outbound activities where you carry your own equipment will understand the benefits that compression stuff sacks offer. Far from being mere covers for your sleeping bag or down jacket, these items act as great backpack liners that also compact soft items such as clothing, which typically take up the bulk of your bag's space.
When choosing your stuff sack, one factor to take into account is weatherproofing. If you'd like to use it to create space inside a rucksack, then this is not as important as a feature and you may consider the Redcamp Nylon, Acrossland Hiking, Jolmo Lander Nylon, or M-Tac Military, as these offer water-resistant protection, but are not fully waterproof.
If you wish to use your compression sack externally, for example on a boat or fishing kayak, or if you wish to attach it to a car roof rack or motorcycle, it is likely to need protection from the elements. In these instances, the Wind Hard Waterproof, Alps Mountaineering, and the Outdoor Research Ultralight, all feature a silicone-coated nylon shell that fully repels water.
If you need even greater protection, then the drybag-style Alps Dry Sack and Sea to Summit Event both feature rolling non-wicking closures. They also each include a special fabric at their base which will let the air out when compressing the contents, but will not let moisture in, even in the harshest of weather conditions.
