The 10 Best Fifth Wheel Hitches
Editor's Notes
August 30, 2019:
At first glance, a truck bed may not appear to be anything all that special, merely an extension of the vehicle as a means of providing storage for supplies. However, this extra space makes room for a lot of additional applications when it comes to extended travel. For example, a truck bed can be equipped with its own tent when you decide to go camping, a mat or liner kit to protect its surface from scratches and improve your vehicle's resale value, and even a spare tire mount for easy access if you happen to get a flat on the road. While these accessories are great, the bed of a pickup truck can also support the use of a fifth wheel hitch, allowing you to connect and tow heavy trailer equipment to any location and on any type of terrain.
For example, the PullRite SuperGlide has a fully articulating head, which makes it easy to move your trailer away from the cab when taking tight turns. The wide stance of the B&W Companion ensures long-term stability, while the cam action latching handle allows for easy release when a truck is parked on inclines. I also included the Curt Q24 due to its spherical axial bearing, which allows its head and coupling point to tilt in almost any direction. Additionally, its three grease fittings provide plenty of lubrication for smooth operation. The Andersen Ultimate comes with a patented remote latching/unlatching cable for easy installation and removal. The Curt Spyder is compatible with gooseneck trailers and it also has integrated loops for accommodating safety chains. I added the Demco Autoslide for its low-profile design, patented double pivoting head, and rack-and-pinion gear system for easy hookups. The polyurethane bushings on the B&W Patriot Slider ensure quiet operation. I also included the Reese Titan for its vibration dampening system. Finally, I included the Husky 31667 for its orange hookup indicator to let you know when its jaw is open.
