If there's one thing I've learned about maintenance as a dog owner for most of my life, it's that supplements like these should be strong enough to make a difference in an aging pet without compromising their overall health or digestive tract. There are many products out there claiming to work miracles on a dog's joints. While we've done our best to sift through all the nonsense to weed out the undesirables, it's important to have realistic expectations for any glucosamine supplement you choose, use it safely and in moderation/conjunction with other vitamins, and provide Fido a balanced diet.
This year, we've removed TerraMax Pro, Vet Naturals Hemp & Hips, and Witkeen Pawrennial for availability concerns.
We've added Zesty Paws Mobility Bites, as this one has undergone a multi-stage distillation process to remove impurities and preserve potency. NaturVet DS Plus is packed with vitamins A and C as antioxidants to help fight free radicals in a dog's body, supporting his immune system.
We've also added PetHonesty Advanced for its inclusion of chondroitin, organic turmeric, and Yucca schidigera as a means of reducing inflammation and rebuilding cartilage. This one also contains egg shell meal to coat Fido's joints.

Nobody wants to admit when their best four-legged friend starts to get older. I, myself, have two dogs around the ages of nine and ten. While they're nowhere near being "over the hill" in my eyes, I do notice that one of them tends to be a little stiff when he gets up to do his business outside for the last time at night before he goes to sleep. While an orthopedic dog bed can do wonders for keeping Fido comfortable in his slumber, there should also something out there to give him pep when he's not asleep. The solution, then, is to invest in one of these glucosamine supplements to help support his joints, bones, and energy level during his later years. The benefit of these products is that they come in different forms, meaning that if your pooch is a picky eater, you'll have several types of formulas to choose from, regardless of whether they come powder, liquid, or chewable forms. The most important values for these products include joint, ligament, and muscle maintenance along with heart health and, of course, increase physical mobility.
For example, the Extend Joint Care uses a blend of glucosamine, methylsulfonylmethane, and chicken collagen to promote the growth and repair of articular cartilage, bones, and joints, regardless of a dog's size or age. It can also be served dry over your pup's regular dog food or in water, depending on his preferences. The Doggie Dailies Advanced contains coenzyme Q10 for supporting good heart and kidney function. Its cold-press extrusion process also preserves its overall potency, which is important when natural absorption of ingredients is the ultimate goal for these supplements. Boswelllia serrata, turmeric, and green-lipped mussel work together to reduce inflammatory response when Spot ingests the Bayer Synovi G4 on a daily basis, making it a great choice if he suffers from occasional joint stiffness. I also think the Pure Paw Dream is a great option if you prefer to squirt a glucosamine supplement over your dog's food bowl. I added the Rocco & Roxie Hip and Joint for its inclusion of tart cherry as a means of decreasing stress associated with strenuous physical activity and recovery time from injuries. Despite its rather high price point, the Actistatin Canine promotes a high absorption rate and an increased production of synovial joint fluid for improved mobility. Finally, I included the Witkeen Pawrennial for its base ingredients of organic vegetables, which can act as a natural defense against certain diseases.
