Editor's Notes

November 05, 2020:

We decided to swap the OtterBox Defender for the Meritcase 5342661 to include a trustworthy waterproof option. It can be submerged in up to 6.6 feet of water and can also withstand being dropped from 6.6 feet. The Ulak Clear was moved to our top spot because it strikes a balance between durability, price, and size. Although it has a slim build, it offers excellent protection from scratches and shock. If you don’t mind a little extra bulk, the I-Blason Armorbox is a heavy-duty option that includes an extra layer of rubber inside the case for even more reassurance.

October 03, 2019:

When updating this list, our top priority was ensuring that all our recommended models are compatible with the iPod Touch 7th generation. Thankfully, the iPod 5, 6, and 7 have nearly identical dimensions, builds, and port orientations, so don't worry if a product mentions that it's for the 5th or 6th generation — it will work for the 7th as well. One thing to note is that cases that are meant to accommodate the 5th generation may have a small hole on the back bottom left for the lanyard connector that was discontinued in later iterations.

We wanted to provide a range of cases that offer light, medium, and heavy-duty protection. We favored models with slim profiles and a snug fit that are easy to put on and take off when needed, even if they are designed to be extremely rugged, like our #1 choice the OtterBox Defender.

We let go of the Snugg Rubber due to unavailability, swapped the Style4U Crystal Bling with the LeYi Glitter Bling to account for shifting tastes, and replaced the Boonix Hybrid Heavy with the sleeker, better received SLMY High Impact. Note that some of our selections, like the I-Blason Armorbox, have built-in screen protection while others have none at all (Ulak Clear, SLMY High Impact), come with additional protectors (LeYi Glitter Bling, MyTurtle Shockproof), or simply cover the screen with a flap like the Hoomil Premium. For the items that come with bonus screen protectors, be sure to use a cleaner prior to application to rid it of dirt and debris for the best results.
