Editor's Notes

July 18, 2019:

Two-year-olds are smack dab in the middle of a crucial development period, so every moment that goes toward their education and development is a moment well spent. While they're not quite at the level where they can appreciate the STEM toys that older children can, it's still the perfect time to build skills that will help them with expressing themselves clearly, literacy, math, pattern recognition, creative thinking, problem-solving, and much more. When paired with a good age-appropriate book, you can keep your child stimulated and on track to hit their milestones with flying colors.

We wanted to select toys that catered to a range of learning objectives, and since children grow lightning-fast, we prioritized ones that could do so with them, like the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn, Brio World Classic Deluxe, Buddy Backpack, and VTech Sit-to-Stand.

We also favored options that would entertain young and older kids alike, such as the First Builders Big Building Bag, Step2 Fun with Friends, and Little Tikes Cozy Coupe. Naturally, our main priority outside of this was to ensure safety, as well as choose durable toys that have plenty of replay value and fall in a range of prices to suit everyone's budget.

As an added note, a two-year-old should never be left alone to their own devices with any toy. While the selections on our list are age-appropriate, defects do occur from time to time, which is why it's critical for parents to inspect toys upon arrival and routinely after that to ensure that the plaything is always safe for handling.
