The Lego Bionicle line was launched in 2000, and even though it was discontinued in 2016, the toys remain popular to this day — particularly among boys in the elementary school age group. Half the fun of these science fiction- and fantasy-inspired toys is in building them. Most of the characters we've chosen have between 80 and 150 pieces and directions that are easy for new readers to follow.

Another interesting aspect of the Bionicle line is the character backstories. Each figure has a corresponding mythology, which makes playing with them that much more fun once they're built. And many of these toys are capable of connecting — literally — with other similarly themed characters to form new compound creatures. Beyond the awesome appearance of the figures themselves, the engrossing world of the Bionicles is what really keeps kids captivated by this collection of toys.

The Quake Beast has been removed due to quality concerns and complaints about a challenging construction process. By contrast, the Skull Scorpio, Terak, Creature of Earth, and Gali, Uniter of Water are new additions to the list, added for their highly original designs and cool accessories.
