The 8 Best Lineman Gloves
Editor's Notes
August 30, 2019:
Considering that a lineman's main tools are their hands, it is important to keep them well protected, especially considering that they are under constant threat of injury from being stomped on or jammed. A good pair of gloves may be the difference between you finishing the game or watching the second half from the waiting room of an ER department with a broken finger.
Because protection is the number one priority, lineman gloves will often be considerably bulkier than receiver gloves. Despite this, we were able to find a few pairs that have a somewhat streamlined, yet still protective, design, such as the Under Armour Fierce VI, Under Armour Combat V, and Adidas Scorch Destroyer.
The Nike D-Tack 6 claimed our top spot because we felt it offered the perfect balance of size, protection, and grip. Unlike some other models that may lose their grip when dirty or wet — we are looking at you Cutters Force 3.0 — the D-Tack 6 remain tacky in almost all weather conditions. Since the Nike Hyperbeast 2.0 are equipped with the same hydragrip palms, they also offer good all-weather tackiness.
If you want the highest degree of protection, you may have to look to the Cutters Force 3.0 because they feature backs that are essentially fully covered with padding. However, they have almost no breathability, which may be a deal breaker for some.
