Editor's Notes
June 17, 2020:
Whether it's reading a favorite book, enjoying a glass of lemonade, or simply nodding off under the warm rays, the main purpose of outdoor sofas is to allow people to more fully enjoy their time outside. With that in mind, we compiled our list with three things in mind: comfort, durability, and functionality in multiple spaces, like gardens, decks, balconies, backyards, and poolside.
Some of our favorite stand-alone selections include the Better Homes & Gardens Delahey Convertible Studio, with its ability to transform from a couch, to a chaise, to a futon, and the Modway Upland Teak, which is a pricier option, but really delivers with thick cushions and a high-end look.
In addition, we found that many people like to order all their outdoor furniture at once, which is why we've included several options that come in sets complete with matching chairs and coffee tables. The Tangkula Patio Set is an excellent example, and in fact includes two love seats and two tables, one of which doubles as storage. Other sets feature a modular design, like the Pamapic Rattan Sectional, which comes with seven separate pieces and stands out with its large size, excellent construction, and timeless style.
For added fun, we also included some non-traditional options, like the Giantex Glider, whose rocking motion offers an increased level of relaxation, and the Suncrown Round Daybed, which lends a resort feel to any outdoor space, and comes with a built-in shade to protect against the sun. If you're looking for something further outside the box, these selections of canopy porch swings and folding hammocks offer additional unexpected choices for outdoor seating.
One thing to keep in mind with all patio furniture, however, is wear and tear. Even though all selections on this list are made from weather-resistant materials, like synthetic rattan, teak, steel, and aluminum, the elements will take a toll on anything left outside for several seasons, and un-cared-for furniture can become broken and dangerous. For this reason, it's important to always check the condition of your sofas before you use them. We also recommend protecting your investment with a cover, like those featured on our outdoor furniture covers ranking.
