The 10 Best PS4 Exclusive Games
Editor's Notes
April 12, 2020:
Some of the greatest video games of all time are PlayStation 4 exclusives, making the console highly sought after by gamers who don’t want to miss out. Development studios like Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog, and Santa Monica Studio have enhanced the PS4 library significantly by creating games specifically for it. These partnerships have led to some amazing creations after enduring long development cycles, listening to fan feedback, and utilizing a direct line of communication with Sony. For good reason, new PS4 exclusives are often hyped up and pre-ordered.
Three games developed by Naughty Dog made our list with The Last of Us Remastered most notably at our top spot. This game takes place during a zombie outbreak and may be overlooked by those who think the zombie genre is saturated. However, it’s much more than a monster-slaying title. Its storyline is filled with emotional character development and massive twists as players follow two characters with a unique relationship. They’re forced to make difficult decisions that hook the user in and ultimately make the zombies just a storytelling tool. Aside from the plot, exploration and conflict is gritty — involving brutal hand-to-hand combat when ammo is scarce. All in all, the Last of Us is a game everyone should experience if they have the chance. The two most recent Uncharted titles also took high spots on our list for their mix of adventure, puzzle solving, collecting, action, and storytelling. There’s definitely a lot packed into these games, and they’re optimized to look and sound great on the PS4 system.
Another notable pick is Astro Bot Rescue Mission, since it’s a virtual reality game for the PS4. Be aware that it does require a PSVR headset, but I thought it would be worth including since it’s a widely praised title. It’s at the bottom of our list for its price of admission if you don’t already own the console’s head-mounted display. Astro Bot is a flagship game for PSVR and demonstrates massive potential behind the VR genre, showing off cute characters and cleverly designed levels.
