Editor's Notes
September 10, 2020:
It's important to note that while many of these boards are appropriate for young users, there is always an inherent risk of injury when using a skateboard — especially if you're a beginner. For maximum safety, it's important to wear the right protective gear, so be sure to invest in a skateboarding helmet before you try out your new wheels. And, of course, if the rider is a child, adult supervision is absolutely necessary.
In terms of updates, the Penny Nickel, Retrospec Zed, and Positiv Andy Macdonald have gotten the ax due to availability issues. The good news: the Kryptonics Cutaway, Hi-Na Hinaboard, and PlayWheels Kids have been added to the list to provide a wider variety of board shapes and sizes. The Rimmable Mini Cruiser has been upgraded to the top slot because of its sturdy, aerodynamic shape and cool, colorful designs.

We realize that not ever beginner is a child, more and more adults are choosing to pick up the sport every day. For that reason, we made sure to include models to suit all ages and sizes of riders. We also wanted to provide you with a variety of different board styles, since some people may want to learn on a longboard cruiser, while others may prefer a trick skateboard.
