Editor's Notes

July 08, 2021:

Our recommendations remain the same as last time around, and we're highly confident that there's something here for everybody. The Wildhorn Tolcat are great beginner mitts and the Burton Gore-Tex perform surprisingly well for the price. For just a bit more, though, the Black Diamond Mercury offer impressive performance, protection, and durability.

January 16, 2020:

Even though battery powered mittens can add bulk and the extra step of charging, we like The Outdoor Research Lucent for their overall use. They are one of the highest ranking heated mitts at this price point. If you were to up the budget you'd be able to find rechargeable options that don't have added bulk or require cable charging as seen in our honorable mentions. Wildhorn Tolcat won't turn any heads with their style features, however they are the best option for beginning skiers who are looking for gear on a low budget. For a simple yet effective mitt, we like the Burton Gore-Tex. They are durable, breathable and will best suite the needs of an intermediate skier who skis a few times per year. Adversely, the expert skier who needs long-lasting heat-retaining mitts should consider the Hestra Army Leather Heli Ski Mittens. We like the quality materials used that place high demand on functionality and fit. Our warmest pick are the Black Diamond Mercury which include a three-part system for its heating insulation. They allow plenty of flexibility so you can grip poles and handle zippers. Unfortunately they may be too warm for some users.
