March 20, 2020:
As with shoes, it is rare that any two people will ever agree on which are the best snowboard boots. With that in mind, we did our best to include a wide variety of styles so there would be one to suit every type of person, whether you prefer Alpine, freestyle, or mountain riding.
If you like the traditional comfort and feel of lace up boots, you'll want to look to the DC Men's Phase and Vans Mens Hi Standard OG. Of these two, the the Phase are a best suited to all mountain use thanks to their medium flex rating that allows them to be responsive while still offering loads of play, and the Hi Standard OG are better suited to freestyle riding due to their soft feel after the break in period. The Burton Men's Moto combines the traditional feel of laces with the quick on-the-fly adjustments of a Boa system thanks to their speed zone lacing system, which can be tightened or loosened in seconds.
These days Boa systems are becoming more and more prevalent, as not only do they allow for quick and easy adjustments, especially with cold fingers, but many riders feel they stay more secure, too. Because of this, they dominated our list. That being said, not all Boa systems are created equal and if you want the most support and least amount of heel lift, you will be best served by a pair that features a double Boa system, like the Thirtytwo Men's Lashed Double Boa, Burton Men's Ruler, Burton Women's Felix Boa, and K2 Men's Maysis. Though lace up, the Vans Mens Hi Standard OG also offer a similar resistance against heel lift as dual Boa systems thanks to their instep lace lock that allows you to vary the tightness between the upper and lower portions.
For children, we have included the affordably priced Burton Mini Grom, which have a simple hook-and-loop Velcro closure, so they won't have to ask their parents or instructor for help when donning or doffing them. They are also smartly designed with an expandable footbed.
Whether a adolescent or adult rider, safety should always be a top priority and nobody should take their board out without a helmet to keep them protected during the inevitable tumbles.
