Editor's Notes

June 07, 2020:

Selecting stationary is a very personal process that's always open to a bit of subjectivity, but in determining what to include on this list, we took into account value, variety, overall appeal of the design, and, importantly, the card and envelope weight. Since thank you cards are particularly useful in bulk, we've also decided to focus on sets, rather than individual note cards, and were sure to add selections that can function for birthdays, weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, and professional events.

Typically speaking, cards that come in bulk sets tend to be a little less weighty than smaller sets. An exception is Opie's Paper Company 100TY, which manage to be quite heavy-weight, yet still come in a 100-count box and are highly versatile. For those who prefer something more decorative, we've included AmazonBasics Bulk Notes, which come in a package of 144. These options are a great way to have stationary on hand all year, but are also particularly useful for people who have big families or a lot of friends.

In our consideration of this list, we also thought it important to offer some unexpected choices, like the creative Honeyplum Kids Fill in the Blank, which we found inventive and particularly useful for parents looking to involve their children in the thank you note-writing process. We also have The Gifted Stationary Matisse, which are attractive enough that you could frame them for home decor.

Finally, for those looking for something tried and true, we have the Hallmark Watercolor Flowers, which feature soft garden roses and a more traditional feel. Additional patterns from the Hallmark collection include abstract brush strokes and graphic bananas, both of which are good choices for those who want a little more whimsy from this trusted brand.

If you decide to invest in high-quality thank you cards, we also recommend using a high-quality pen, like those featured on our fountain pens ranking.
