The 10 Best Toddler Plates
Editor's Notes
July 31, 2019:
In addition to graduating to sippy cups, young kiddos often can’t wait to start eating more independently off of a plate, just like grown-ups do. The toddler plates featured here come in a variety of colors and designs, including those with convenient, non-slip bottoms, and those that feature two or more sections that keep different foods from touching. Speaking of which, joining our selection today is the Munchkin Splash 4 Piece, which comes with two dishes – each with three sections – and two bowls. Their bottoms have rubberized feet that keep them from sliding around, which means fewer messes to clean up. Having a multi-piece set will also make your life easier if you’d prefer not to have to wash a dish before your little one’s next meal. And when it comes to cleaning them, they’re conveniently dishwasher safe. They’re also safe for use in the microwave, per the manufacturer’s guidelines, and you’ll have peace of mind knowing they’re BPA-free.
For those who prefer a non-plastic design, the Innobaby Din Din, featured here, is a refreshing alternative. It’s made of stainless steel and playfully shaped like a school bus, with five sections. It comes with a lid that snaps on firmly to keep food in place, even on the go. It too can be placed in the dishwasher (although it’s recommended the lid be hand washed). For parents who prefer sustainable materials, the Avanchy Baby is a strong choice, as it’s made from bamboo that’s BPA-, PVC-, lead-, phthalate-, and plastic-free, with no harmful chemical materials.
Leaving the list in this update is the Lansinoh mOmma, which, although designed to keep food warm during mealtimes, may fall short of its goal.
Note that melamine is a chemical found in some plastic products that renders them unsafe for being heated in the microwave. Please read the FDA guidelines regarding melamine and also, whichever plate or plates you purchase, be sure to follow the manufacturer guidelines regarding whether they’re safe for use in the microwave.
