Editor's Notes
August 26, 2019:
We’ve updated our choices to include all of the latest editions of the best TOEFL prep books, including the 2019 edition of Cracking the TOEFL and the 2020-2021 version of Kaplan Prep Plus. You’ll also find the fifth edition of our top pick, the Official Guide with DVD-ROM, from ETS. We elected to add two choices that are more general, the TOEFL iBT Preparation Book and the Mometrix Secrets Study Guide. Students who have the luxury of time may find these to be light on in-depth content; students who have left test prep to the last minute and need a quick overview with actionable strategies might find them to be just right. Finally, we also decided to add The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation for those who need to brush up on usage, grammar, or punctuation rules. Although it isn’t a TOEFL guide per se, it’s a great resource to add to your collection of guides, dictionaries, and assorted learning materials. It’s on the dry side, but it has tons of quizzes and questions that help you learn and practice, rather than read and forget.
