The 9 Best Unicycles
Editor's Notes
August 25, 2020:
Many of the models on the list were similar in terms of size and function, so in this update we added some unique options to the mix. The Hoppley Starter is a particularly small model featuring a 12-inch wheel. It's a good choice for younger kids who are too short for adult sizes. Fitness enthusiasts might want to check out the Inventist Lunicycle, a standing model that's also easier to transport and store. Experienced performers looking to add some spectacle to their shows can opt for the five-foot-tall Club Giraffe. We also added the Nimbus Mountain, a durable model that can withstand rides on rougher, unpaved trails.
When buying a unicycle, there are a number of factors to keep in mind. Size is an important one. You want to be able to comfortably reach the pedals, especially if you plan on riding for long periods of time. Be sure to pay attention to tire size and the range of heights that the seat can be adjusted to. If you're just starting out, you can expect to take some falls before you master this new skill, so a model with scuff guards might be a good idea, as this will keep the seat protected from impacts. If you're a performer planning to juggle while riding, a durable model with a smooth ride like the Sun Bicycles Flat Top is a good choice.
As with any physical activity, unicycling is not without its risks. Riders, especially beginners and children, should be sure to wear proper protective gear, including helmets and pads.

Both budget and expensive options are included here, though was careful to avoid models made with overly cheap materials. Riding on one wheel takes a lot of concentration on its own. You shouldn't also have to worry about your ride coming apart. While unicycles can vary greatly in price, beginners should stick with models suited for beginners, such as the Fun 20-Inch Wheel or the Nimbus II. Unicycles with higher-grade specs, such as those made by Kris Holm, are engineered for adept riders who can take advantage of their specially designed parts.
