Updated June 18, 2020 by Christopher Thomas

This wiki has been updated 10 times since it was first published in May of 2020. If you want a chance to prove your skills in the living room, garage or even the kitchen, these over-the-door basketball hoops provide limitless fun for all ages and never-ending competition. The burliest models have one or two springs that bolster the strength of the rim and some choices make a lot of noise while others are quiet. Certain balls are lighter and just a bit safer for indoor use. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

June 04, 2020:

Many models of these indoor hoops are built to withstand really rough dunks by being reinforced with either one or two springs. The Franklin Sports 54272X has two and is specifically designed for dunking, unlike other models with no springs where the rim is fixed and doesn't flex. The SKLZ Pro HP04 has one steel spring that offers about the same support as the Franklin Sports 54272X. A great function of these spring-loaded rims is they bounce right back into place after a slam dunk.

Options with extra foam padding on the brackets minimize or completely eliminate scuff marks on doors. The And1 BH100EP is a colorful, artistic option but the screws, unless padded by the buyer, can scratch and leave marks on doors. The Spalding 56099, Franklin Sports 54272X, SKLZ Pro HP04, GoSports Mini 02 all have extra padding so they won't damage anything in the entryway.

The weight of the different balls greatly impacts how loud they bounce off the rim and floor during use. Plus, heavier balls have a higher likelihood of damaging something indoors. The ball in the Silverback G02280W has a great grip and feels authentic but is heavier and therefore louder to play with. The ball with the And1 BH100EP is lighter and less noisy. The SKLZ Pro HP04 comes in a variety of size options and the micro version has a smaller foam ball that will minimize damage if it hits anything. If you want a package that includes multiple balls, either for multiplayer games like "horse" or shooting competitions, the Meland Indoor and the GoSports Mini 02 include three balls and the Bestty Mini has two.

The hoops in this ranking hang on the door and the SKLZ Pro HP04 can also be mounted on the wall. Wall-mounted hoops offer slightly more support and many of these models are featured on our best mini hoops ranking.

These are great gifts for children to play with indoors, but there are similar options that allow kids to get outside, as featured in our Best Outdoor Games for Kids ranking. The mini hoops featured in this ranking are great to play with anytime, as inclement weather won't ruin any games.
