Editor's Notes
May 20, 2020:
A good beer stein is more than just a drinking glass. They not only hold your beverages, they can also insulate them and make attractive decorations whether you're actively imbibing or not. The King Old German and King Thewalt 1893 both feature particularly ornate designs and heavy bases, and though they are pretty costly, they will really stand out on a shelf when empty, or on a table when full of frothy beer. The E.H.G. Engraved, E.H.G. S4555, and E.H.G. S404 are all traditionally styled options that come from a popular US-based wholesaler and provide plenty of room for ale alongside classic German artwork. The S404, in particular, is worth a look if you like the style of old steins but aren't a fan of trying to navigate drinking around the lid. The same can be said for the Hofbrauhaus Munchen 101, which is a lot like a common tankard except it's taller and weighs quite a bit more.
Despite its manufacturer's name, the GermanSteins Ireland isn't very German-inspired at all, but if you want to keep your Guiness covered, it's a great choice. The GermanStein Personalized is quite similar but with a clear backdrop and space for your own custom-ordered engraving instead of the Irish-styled decoration. The IK Style Tankard has a rustic appearance that's authentic enough to serve as a period piece in a theater production, while the Stanley Classic is the exact opposite; it's extremely well-made and a testament to those who like classically inspired, yet modern and durable equipment.
