This wiki has been updated 3 times since it was first published in January of 2020. If your car's audio system predates Bluetooth and doesn't have an easily accessible auxiliary input, you can still listen to music or podcasts using a wireless adapter. Some plug into the cigarette lighter and transmit to an unused FM station on your car's radio while others output to a stereo mini plug. You can even make or receive hands-free calls while keeping your eyes on the road. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

February 20, 2020:

There are two types of Bluetooth receivers designed for use in cars. If your vehicle doesn't have an easily accessible auxiliary input, you'll probably want to look for an FM transmitter such as the Anker Roav SmartCharge T2, which accepts a wireless signal and sends it to the least busy FM station that it can find. the Anker Roav SmartCharge T1 offers nearly as much functionality, but it's smaller and less expensive and some users prefer its slightly more simple operation. Speaking of simple, the VicTsing BH347A is also a very low-profile unit that takes up even less space than the Anker T1 while costing even less, and the VicTsing Car Kit is even more affordable, though it does lack some high-end features. The VicTsing Upgraded and Nulaxy KM29, on the other hand, go so far as to offer equalizer and visual memory navigation functions, making it especially easy to find your favorite song located on a flash drive.

If your car stereo does have an aux port on the front, or if you're willing to pull out the head unit and plug some RCA cables into the back, you have a few more options, some of which can sound significantly better than an FM-oriented model. The Mpow BH408 offers powerful noise canceling, which makes it great for phone calls, while the Mpow MBR2 includes a ground loop isolator that should all but eliminate the alternator whine that some people hear when they plug an audio device into their car's 12-volt system. The Mpow BH390A and Kinivo BTC450, however, both stand out thanks to their use of the aptX codec, which can provide better-than-CD-quality audio, as long as your music source is of relatively good quality.
