Editor's Notes
November 14, 2019:
It's pretty hard to deny that a lot of the smartphone borescopes on the market are decidedly similar in build and specs. Resolution standards have certainly crept up through the years, with the rather odd 2592 x 1944 being used on models like the Oiiwak Inspection 1944P Snake to surpass the 1920 x 1080 hd so many people would recognize. Ultimately this isn't going to make a huge difference if you're only looking at the photos or videos on your phone, but if you save them for later and view them on a larger screen, say, a 4K monitor, you'll definitely be able to see a difference.
One of the more important factors to look at is the specific rigidity of a length of cable, but this is something that you can't really know until you use it. There's no codified system for rating how rigid one of these cables is, but the term semi-digid gets tossed around a lot, and that's a good indicator that you're dealing with a cable that's not too floppy or too hard. If you get it home and it seems a bit stiff, odds are it'll break in a bit with use.
IP67 waterproofing is also an industry standard here for the most part, and that implies that the cameras can withstand forceful jets of water from a certain distance away. How that might relate to the water they encounter in a pipe is going to be slightly different from model to model, but most should have no problem even if submerged for a short period.
