The Hathaway Renegade Slate stays on top, and it's now the only table here with a genuine slate bed. Five of the eight earlier picks have vanished from sale: the Coaster Home Furnishings Mitchell, Berner Billiards The Weston 3-in-1, Fairview Game Rooms Combination Chestnut, Coaster Home Furnishings Marietta and Playcraft Hartford. The Atomic Classic and Hathaway Kingston stay, and two picks are new: the Hathaway Renegade II for its flip-over dining top and the Freetime Fun Baddah Bing for a farmhouse look.
Bumper pool gets no attention from the big review labs, so the evidence here is the makers' own spec pages from Hathaway's parent Blue Wave, Escalade, Freetime Fun, Legacy Billiards and Great American Recreation, plus owner feedback on every table still sold and a recall search. A bumper pool table can be a great alternative to a traditional one for a variety of reasons. They are smaller, which means they can fit into homes that might not have space for a standard pool table, and many do double duty as card or dining tables. Also, if you have kids, many tend to find bumper pool more fun than playing 8-ball, since the bumpers add an element of fun not found on a regular billiards table.
If you need something that will do triple duty as a bumper, card, and dining table, you'll want to look at the Coaster Home Furnishings Mitchell, Fairview Game Rooms Combination Chestnut, Coaster Home Furnishings Marietta, and Hathaway Kingston Oak BG2351T. Of these, the Fairview Game Rooms Combination Chestnut and Coaster Home Furnishings Marietta are probably the most elegant, the former of which has a decorative center post and legs, and the latter of which features a rich tobacco stain and a classic round shape. Though not the most affordable or the most attractive of the bunch, the Hathaway Kingston Oak BG2351T is the lightest in weight, so if you expect you may often need to move your bumper pool table off to a corner when not in use, it might be the best choice.
Technically, the Berner Billiards The Weston 3-in-1 could also do triple duty, however, it doesn't look much like a residential dining table and it would probably stand out to most as not being a normal piece of furniture, so it is best for dedicated game rooms.
Also suitable for dedicated gaming spaces are the Hathaway Renegade and Playcraft Hartford, both of which look similar to what you might find at your local billiards hall. They have reinforced, capped metal corners and durable bumpers and felt.

Fully half of the options on this list are convertible models that can be used for card games or even dinner parties. While this increases their versatility, they may not be ideal if what you're really after is a top-notch game of pool. These selections are smaller than the dedicated models, so your games will be a little more cramped — but your living room might be a little less so.
The Fairview Game Rooms Combination overcame this obstacle by nailing every other part of the equation. It's beautiful, solid, and all of the smaller details are luxurious and elegant. It's perfect for poker nights, too.
Check how easy it is to level the legs before making a purchase. One of the reasons we liked the Hathaway Renegade so much was due to the presence of independent levelers on each leg. After all, nothing can make a billiards table more useless than having it be on an uneven surface.

Most home tables use medium-density fiberboard or other engineered wood. Escalade says the Atomic's MDF bed resists warping, and Legacy Billiards uses MDF on its Ella too. Wood beds play fine when the table is level, but they're less forgiving of a damp basement or a sloping floor. Whatever you buy, set it up where it will stay, then use the leg levelers and a spirit level on the bed itself, not the rails.
