Because they balance a workplace-appropriate aesthetic with usability, the Timbuk2 Authority, the Incase Icon, and the Everki Atlas all remain excellent options, but we've removed the eBags Professional Slim. Although a redesign addressed the main complaint of many, that this bag was too heavy, the changes were perhaps detrimental to its overall convenience in use. Considered on its own, it remains a decent bag, but compared to the competition, it simply doesn't hit the mark.
As a replacement, we selected the Kenneth Cole Reaction Manhattan on the strength of its sleek, attractive leather styling. In fact, this lends it a more formal appearance than is offered by many laptop backpacks or messenger bags, but of course, this means it is not vegan friendly, if that happens to be important to you.
We decided to remove the Victorinox Altmont 3.0, as well, instead choosing the Thule Pack-n-Pedal for those who commute via bike. It gives you the features you need to stay safe out on the road, including reflective detailing and a high-visibility rain cover to help motorists see you when the weather is poor. You can count on it to hold your helmet when you get to where you're going, too.
Finally, we still like the CoolBell Convertible and the AmazonBasics 17-Inch as wallet-friendly choices. Keep in mind that they aren't as rugged as some pricier models, but they leave room in the budget for other business essentials, like your laptop.

We've opted to remove the Booq Cobra at this time, due to problems with availability, as well as the Kenneth Cole Reaction Ez-Scan, which tends to feel stiff compared to the competition. As for updates, we've added the newer Samsonite Xenon 3, which takes the place of the Xenon 2. They're remarkably similar, so if you like the older version, it's likely that you'll enjoy the newer one.
We selected two new options at opposite ends of the price spectrum, as well. On the less expensive side, there's the AmazonBasics 17-Inch, a laptop backpack that's fine for work, school, and just about anything else. It doesn't have the rugged durability of many others, though, so consider it an entry-level option that will probably need to be replaced down the line. It doesn't have a lot of flashy features, but it offers an understated elegance that could be perfect for those who don't want to draw attention.

This popular bag has a following for plenty of reasons: its efficient use of space, its sleek style, its comfortable straps — the list goes on. We like its range of colors, too, which includes some brighter options to balance out the business staples of black and gray.
