This wiki has been updated 17 times since it was first published in May of 2018. If you prefer not to have pets on your couch or bed, providing a place for them to sleep that's all their own can encourage them to stay off furniture. Give your kitty the snoozing space of his or her dreams with one of these cat beds. We've included options in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials, so you can choose the one that best fits your feline friend's needs. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

April 27, 2020:

During this round of updates, while the Kitty City Steel needed to be removed due to availability issues, we also decided on eliminating the Armakart Skid-Free and Best Friends by Sheri, noting that our rankings already included similar options, and wanting to make room for some new inclusions. Our additions this time around are the MyZoo Spaceship Alpha – a capsule-shaped plywood model with acrylic dome windows on both ends, the PetFusion PF-CL1 – a cardboard option that doubles as a durable scratcher, and the K&H Pet Products Kitty Sill – which installs easily and has bolstered and heated versions available.

A few things to think about for this category:

Capacity: While most of the models we ranked should be able to accommodate most cats, and indeed, in some cases, quite a bit more – the K&H Pet Products Kitty Sill has a 40-pound capacity and the Lifis Window Perch is rated to hold up to 55 pounds – other models are restrictive for big cats, by virtue of their size. The Easyology Zen Den, for example, is only 15 inches wide, which will be a touch on the small side for some girthy pets.

Open or Enclosed: This decision will likely come down to your pet’s preference. While many cats will enjoy an open option like the Lifis Window Perch or Aspen Pets Self Warming, which allows for luxurious days of sunbathing, others cats, especially rescues with skittish tendencies, will prefer a closed model like the Easyology Zen Den or Best Pet Supplies Tent. If you’re not sure which way to go, the PartySaving Pet Palace and the Meowfia Cave both have design provisions that allow them to easily switch back and forth between being open and enclosed. Another alternative is the MyZoo Spaceship Alpha, which is equipped with windows, so your feline can enjoy a nice combination of security and sunlight.

Heating: Most cats can’t get enough of warmth. So, if you think your cats might enjoy a bit of supplementary heat, in addition to whatever sunlight they’re able to soak up during their busy lounging schedule, the K&H Thermo-Kitty and K&H Pet Products Kitty Sill can both be ordered with optional heating pads that are quite energy efficient. And, if you’d prefer an option that doesn’t require any electricity, the Aspen Pets Self Warming has a mylar liner that does a decent job of warming the bed up, as long as it’s exposed to sunlight.

During his leisure time, he’s learned lots about outdoor gear, and years of tiresome backyard maintenance have taught him all about pools and hot tubs. His recreational pursuits include rest, relaxation and revolutionary action, and his roommate’s a hairless cat.
