Editor's Notes

October 14, 2020:

When finding and choosing the best chart markers for teachers, I wanted to be sure to include a variety of inks, nibs, and colors to suit different projects around the classroom. Additionally, I wanted to make sure a handful were washable and non-toxic. For markers that will be used by both teachers and students, we recommend Mr. Sketch 1924061 and Crayola CYO588173. Not only are the Mr. Sketch markers non-toxic, low-odor, and washable, they're also scented which adds a fun element to the classroom. And although not specifically designed for chart paper, these dual-sided markers welcome students to get more creative in the classroom.

For markers that will be primarily used by teachers, the Staedtler Lumocolor, Sharpie 22478, and Foray Desk-Style are good picks. All of these dry quickly, so they won't smudge or bleed through your chart paper, allowing you to move through your lesson without a mess. The Staedtler Lumocolor are especially convenient because they come in a stand-up storage case that you can place next to your paper and quickly change out markers without a hassle. The ink cartridges are also refillable to cut down on plastic waste.
