The 10 Best Combination Washer Dryers
Editor's Notes
December 10, 2020:
When it comes to doing your laundry, if one of your top priorities is space then a combination washer and dryer may be just what you need. They can complete both functions in one appliance and are available in a standard size of 30 to 33 inches or as an even more compact unit of around 25 inches wide, which is a good choice for RVs or small apartments and dorm rooms. Bear in mind that, generally, the smaller the appliance, the longer it takes to complete a cycle, especially the drying function.
In this update, we removed several choices that are now obsolete and added the most recent models to complete the ranking. We replaced the Splendide Vented Combo and the RCA Front Loading with the most up-to-date models from these manufacturers. The Splendide WDC7100XC Platinum now has a larger door for easy loading and heavy-duty shock absorbers and springs to reduce the volume when spinning. The RCA RWD270 Combo is a compact 25-inch model that boasts the largest capacity in its class of 2.7 cubic-foot, and now offers 16 wash cycles as opposed to only 12 with the previous model.
Our previous list contained two models made by LG, the LG Stainless 24-Inch, which is a compact model with an easy to use digital interface, and the LG TrueBalance Ventless, a much larger model with a large, square glass door that allows oversized items, such as duvets and blankets, to be easily inserted and removed. Two more options from LG have now been included, the 24-inch LG WM3499HVA, and the LG WM3998HBA, which is one of the most spacious machines available with a 4.5 cubic foot capacity. Both of these models are equipped with Bluetooth connectivity that connects to your smart device via the LG SmartThinQ app, which allows users to select a cycle, start or stop a wash, get status notifications, and can be activated with simple voice commands using Alexa or Google assistant. We also added a much simpler option, the Cosvalve Compact, which is a twin tub machine with powerful 1300-watt motors. However, it doesn't have a heater to select the water temperature, and it uses a separate spin compartment to dry the clothes, so they will still need hanging out after completion.
March 08, 2019:
A pair of machines on our previous list turned out to be re-branded versions of devices by somewhat more trustworthy names, particularly the Best Appliances entry that has been swapped out for the unit by RCA. At the end of the day, though, no one can quite compete with the LG model that held its place at number one. That's primarily due to its enhanced capacity, but its feature set is also something to be reckoned with. The Equator model joined the ranking for similar reasons, and it boasts a particularly useful display, even if it is a bit ugly to behold.
