This wiki has been updated 5 times since it was first published in May of 2019. Component speakers are designed as a network, usually consisting of a pair of tweeters, external crossovers, and woofers. Each is fitted with its own driver and engineered to reproduce the specific part of the frequency range that it is best suited to handle. If you're looking to upgrade your car's sound system, our list offers an array of options, ranging from entry-level to pro-quality. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Skip to the best component speaker on Amazon.

Special Honors

Dynaudio System 362 Esotec 8" Aside from competition-grade crossovers, this 3-way kit consists of 1.1" soft-dome tweeters, 3" soft-dome midrange speakers, and huge 8" woofers that are capable of handling bass frequencies most component sets can only dream of. You can make independent tweeter level adjustments so you can customize the treble output to your liking. Expect a neutral tonal balance, clarity at any volume level, and studio-quality dynamic expression — if you have a good amp to match them, that is.

Focal ES 165KX3 Designed and made in France, this 2-way setup is costly, but offers a wider frequency response than most, an ultra-realistic soundstage with transparent imaging, and detailed precision. The M-shaped tweeters help provide harmonic balance, and the crossovers are constructed with top-grade components. It stands out as one of the best woofer/tweeter setups an audiophile can buy.

Editor's Notes

May 31, 2019:

We've reviewed similar speaker kits from many different companies, and found that each has something different to offer. For example, our #3 and #4 picks, the Rockford Fosgate T1675-S and Alpine SPR-60C, respectively, are nearly the same price, but vary greatly in the function and appearance of their crossovers. The Alpine kit's crossovers are rather large, and contain higher-quality components; therefore, they are more capable of properly directing different frequencies to where they're supposed to go. Meanwhile, the Rockford Fosgate ultra-compact crossovers may be better for those hoping to hide them away in a vehicle with limited space.

While most of our picks are configured as a 2-way setup, our #5 pick, the Precision Power P.65C3, offers a 3-way network that creates a more realistic sound-stage. Meanwhile, though, the 2-way Focal KRX2 kit, which reigns supreme at #1, boasts a superior sound-stage to all its competitors, thanks to the quality of its components.

Our budget picks are nothing to sneeze at, either. The lower items on our list are affordable and will provide your vehicle with a noticeable bump in sound-quality if you're upgrading from a factory setup.
