During this round of updates, while the Geek Aire CF was removed due to availability issues, we replaced the discontinued Makita BCF201Z with a step-up model, the Makita DCF300Z.

We also added several new options to our list, namely the Metabo AV18 — a powerful, all-metal model that can be wall mounted or attached to a tripod; the Klein Tools PJSFM1 — a compact choice that offers plenty of mounting options via its onboard hook, clamp and magnets; and the Craftsman CMCE001B — which can run for up to 24 hours on a single charge (providing you keep it locked on its lowest setting).

Before you jump in and make a purchase, it should be noted that most models in this category are sold as bare tools and run on their respective company’s proprietary lithium ion batteries. So, if you aren’t already invested in said lineup, you’ll need to purchase a battery and charger separately.

If you already have cordless tools from a specific company, it is usually a no-brainer to get a matching fan that uses the same battery. So, if you have 20-volt max DeWalt tools, you'll want to get the DeWalt DCE511B. If you have Milwaukee's 18-volt tools, you'll want to get the Milwaukee M18 0886-20. The same goes for the Ryobi, Makita, and Rigid options. If you aren't trying to match any specific tools, then your decision will be based on the merits of each particular fan. The DeWalt DCE511B, Milwaukee M18 0886-20, Geek Aire CF get the longest run times, so if you need something to last a full work day, these are smart options. As an added bonus, the Geek Aire CF is water resistant, making it the ideal choice for outdoor settings. The Ryobi P3320, Makita CF100DZ, and Ridgid GEN5X are affordably priced and should be considered by anybody on a tight budget. Whichever model you do choose, you can rest easy these can all handle the inevitable bumps and bruises of a busy jobsite.
