The 10 Best DC Power Supplies
Editor's Notes
February 10, 2021:
This update was partly about replacing older models for newer ones with newer components, more stable voltage and current, more efficient cooling systems and lower noise. It was also partly about replacing all analog models with digital ones, though in the end, I changed my mind and left in the Tekpower Analog Display TP30SWI for those who want a little ‘vintage flair’ – do note that it's just made to look that way, and is actually a relatively new model that was released in the past couple of years.
The Pyramid Universal Compact Bench was the only model with a non-variable output, and I’ve removed that option now because it was getting quite old. With the exception of the Tekpower Analog, all models in the updated list offer variable voltage and current. Some, like the Eventek 30V and Kungber Variable will even offer 2 sets of 2 knobs for coarse and fine voltage/current control, while others may integrate both levels of control into a single knob.

For a relatively complicated category, the things that make a given model superior are simple: total watts, adjustability, and clean output. Models designed for laboratory use, like the two Korad units on our list or the Rigol DP832, are going to be the best options here, though some designed for hobbyists can get away with a little more noise in the signal and still be great investments.
