Today, many exposed-filament Edison lightbulbs come in dimmable designs, making them both a charming and convenient choice for illuminating any living room, den, or café. They also come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, with several attractive color options to create the ambience you desire.

For a set of bulbs that give off a warm, amber glow, look to the Philips ST16, which come from a well-known lighting manufacturer that’s been around since the late 19th century. Measuring 5.4 inches in length, these combine a retro style with modern LED efficiency, for a generous lifespan of up to 15,000 hours.

For the familiar, flicker-free performance of incandescent bulbs, look to the Gordon & Bond 4 Pack, which feature oblong housings with hand-blown glass dimples on the ends, which contain hand-woven tungsten filaments. They go great either in a lampshade or other open light fixture, or screwed into sockets and hung from the ceiling via cords.

The 60-watt Bulbrite 60A19HG will create a soft, ambient effect that’s easy on the eyes and great for fixtures with exposed bulbs like sputnik chandeliers, pendant fixtures, and so on. Their gold-mirrored tops reflect the light back toward their bases to reduce glare.
