The 9 Best Earthquake Kits

Updated October 06, 2019 by Daniel Imperiale

This wiki has been updated 19 times since it was first published in March of 2018. It's unpleasant to think about worst-case scenarios, but refusing to do so could leave your family unprepared when disaster strikes. Since no one can predict when a major earthquake will hit, keeping one of these kits handy is the only way to ensure you'll have what you need if you left without access to food, water and medical assistance. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Preppi Emergency Kits This is a brand that offers a wide variety of bags, ranging pretty wildly in price depending on your needs. One of their most popular lines comes in bags that are fire-retardant, and all of their offerings are designed to look as attractive as possible, so you can keep yours out in the open and not have to go digging in a closet for it if disaster strikes. preppi.co

ReadyPod Shelter In Place Only the most serious preppers need apply for this particular product. It comes in configurations capable of effortlessly sustaining up to eight people for as many as 12 weeks. The only downside is that this much high-quality material comes at a cost that far exceeds the majority of the market's offerings. readypod.com

Editor's Notes

October 02, 2019:

A couple of items from our previous list were removed for availability concerns, namely the Zippmo and Aootek. Their replacements are superior, however, and include a Pelican-style waterproof carrying case from EC Emergency, which is designed to live in your vehicle so you can survive a quake on the road, and a rather capable kit from Everlit, which comes with one of the better bags offered in the selection.

The quality of any kit's bag does become quite the issue in an emergency situation, and it's unfortunately one of the first places that kit makers will cut corners in an effort to maximize profits. If you have the time and the means, you could always buy another, more trustworthy bag and stock it from scratch with survival gear, but few people have that patience or finances to do that. The fastest and cheapest solution is often one of these pre-made kits, so we made sure to look for offerings with secure means of transportation.

For more serious preppers, we've included an expensive pair of models in our special honors section that offer fire-retardant bags, a wide variety of useful tools, and enough supplies in one model's cases to last up to two weeks.
