Editor's Notes
September 01, 2020:
Even when it comes to older models like the iPhone X, smartphone cases are always being improved upon and changing. To that end, we removed about half this list to make room for more on-trend options and reliable choices to replace unavailable or inferior units.
We wanted to maintain a balance between minimalistic and slim cases such as the Olixar Ultra-Thin, Ruky Quicksand Series, and Smartish Kung Fu, which should have no issues fitting into slip pockets in purses and backpacks or many smartphone armbands, and rugged selections like the OtterBox Defender and Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro. We also favored multifunctional items like the Samonpow Hybrid, Dockem Luxe, ZVE Slim Leather, and Snakehive Vintage, which all do double-duty as wallets to some degree.
We prioritized thoughtful designs that don't hinder wireless charging, contactless payments, or buttons and incorporate raised lips to protect the screen, ports, and camera, reinforced corners for shock absorption and drop protection, and nonslip textures and grips. That being said, even the most intense case won't protect your phone from every single mishap that might happen to it, and sometimes the angle at which you drop a device can spell doom no matter the level of protection. It still pays to be careful and invest in a glass screen protector if your case doesn't come with an integrated cover already.

There is no question that everybody needs a sturdy case to protect their phone. If you often pull your device out at work or during meetings, you will probably want to consider a professional-looking model, like the iCarercase Flip Folio, ZVE Slim Leather, and Belk Simple Retro. Along with the Samonpow Hybrid, these last two feature credit card slots, allowing them to double as wallets. If you live an active life, you may need something extremely durable to provide the highest level of protection possible. In this case, you should look at the Rokform Rugged Series and Anker Karapax Shield. On the other hand, if you only need minimum protection and just want something that won't feel bulky in a pocket, the Olixar Ultra-Thin and Casy Mall Hybrid are your best options.
