The 10 Best Laptops For Teachers

Updated August 07, 2020 by Daniel Imperiale

This wiki has been updated 21 times since it was first published in December of 2018. Over the years, teachers have witnessed the gradual demise of chalkboards, AV carts, and cursive writing, thanks in large part to the advance of technology. And today, like their students, educators require decent laptops as part of their arsenal. Our list includes options for a range of needs and budgets with a focus on quality, functionality, value, and ease of use. When users buy our independently chosen editorial selections, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

August 04, 2020:

One of the most important things to consider in a field of laptops that can serve educators is whether you need something to organize your life and your lesson plans, to communicate with students and teachers, and to grade papers, or something that you'll actually integrate into your classroom experience. The Google Pixelbook Go M3, for example, is a fine example of the former, a Chromebook without a strong enough set of specs for complex classroom integration, but plenty for writing tests and tracking student performance. A model like the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 or the Asus ZenBook Duo UX481, conversely, will have a responsive enough touchscreen and powerful enough graphic performance to be a fine companion in arts and graphic design courses.

Security can be vital for a teacher, as well. In the old days, a lock on a drawer was all you needed to keep test papers and grade information out of students' hands. Nowadays, having an added layer of electronic protection is vital, especially if you leave your computer unattended in your classroom. Fingerprint identification scanners like you see on the HP Envy 17T or IR cameras like you see on the that Zenbook — that can be used in facial recognition systems — are smart things to have for this reason.

December 20, 2018:

No matter what your budget or your classroom needs, there is a laptop for you, thanks to the many well-respected brands and various price points, although quality ones tend to be expensive in general. We made sure to include some truly affordable options in this list, however, including Chromebooks, which require refreshingly little hard drive space. All of the choices here provide the quality and reliability you need in a laptop today more than ever.
