The 9 Best Mini Split Heat Pumps
Editor's Notes
May 07, 2021:
I’ve removed some of the older models, and added some newer options – the Della Smart, Cooper & Hunter MIA Series and Innovair Ductless- which are all incidentally WiFi capable, but that’s not why I’ve chosen to add these models. The only Wi-Fi-capable model on this list from prior to the update is the Classic America Ductless, though the ability to control one of these devices through your smartphone isn’t a huge and crucial advantage when you also get remote controls - it’s just a nice added bonus. With the exception of the Gree U-Match, Air-Con Int Blue 2 and Daikin 17 Series, most of these splits will run in the 9-12K BTU range, and many will offer a few models with different capacities, all of which are similarly affordable at this capacity range. Compressors are fairly efficient nowadays too, and most models will offer a SEER rating of 19 to 21, with the exception of the Senville, which has a rating of 17, though that’s still highly efficient, and it’s a very quiet model.

We've included the Senville LETO Series for its efficient variable inverter compressor technology and easy-to-use infrared remote. I thought the MrCool Do It Yourself was a great option for amateur installers, thanks to its pre-charged linesets and simple electric connections. It also offers integrated leak detection. The "follow me" feature built into the design of the DuctlessAire DA2421 makes it a great option for remote operation. Also added the Gree U-Match for its extensive self-diagnostic functions. I thoughts the Daikin 17 Series was useful for particularly small rooms due to its infrared eye sensor to control when it turns on and off, which helps to save energy. Included the Classic America Ductless due to the ability of its thermistor protection device to protect the unit from loss of charge and from freezing in very cold weather.
