March 09, 2021:
A good quality motorcycle carrier is a heavy-duty piece of equipment made from durable materials, and as long as it is correctly matched to the weight of your bike and your hitch receiver, it should last for many years to come. Most models are similar in design, with the bike sitting flush against the tailgate of the vehicle. In this update, we did include two alternative styles which may suit some users better.
The Yescom Hitch Mount is designed to tow the bike using only the front wheel, thus reducing strain on the hitch. This model is also very easily loaded by one person, as it features a built-in crank arm to lift it from the ground. If you own a pickup truck or a trailer, then the Risk Racing Lock-N-Load may be a better choice as it bolts directly to the bed and holds bikes in position using the footpegs, which not only reduces stress in the front fork seals, but also eliminates the necessity of straps. The ability to lock them in place is another useful feature that provides peace of mind if you need to leave your vehicle unattended for any length of time.
Another new addition is the MotoTote MTX, which is notable for its meshed steel platform that provides additional traction whilst loading and unloading. It features a flared base for larger back tires, which, combined with its 600-pound weight capacity, makes it a great choice for street bikes. Dirt bikes are usually somewhat lighter, so a carrier with a lower weight capacity, such as the Specstar Heavy Duty or the Discount Ramps AMC-400-F should be sufficient. The latter also conveniently has a folding design, which means it doesn't need to be removed from the vehicle between uses.

Any of our selections will do the job, so it comes down to preference. Do you prefer a steel or aluminum platform? A longer ramp will typically make loading and unloading easier. And pay attention to the details, such as the number and position of tie-down loops. Make sure you know your hitch type and your vehicle's towing limits before you buy.
