Editor's Notes

March 28, 2019:

Power, efficiency, adjustability, and an ability to withstand operation on a wide variety of terrains are all valuable factors that should be taken into account when choosing the best mulching lawn mower for one's needs. I also thought it was important for this list to contain a mix of gas and electric-powered models, given that a lawn's circumstances may command varying levels of torque requiring fuel as opposed to a lithium-ion battery and vice versa. Not only is power important, but so is ease of use when it comes to maintaining outdoor areas that are small and characterized by hard-to-reach places that suffer from potentially thick overgrowth. I wanted to make sure the options chosen would be able to meet most (if not all of these qualities). The Snapper XD, for example, uses smart load sensing technology to adjust its power output accordingly and depending on the amount of effort required by its blades to get the job done. This machine would definitely come in handy in backyards with areas of different heights and thicknesses (i.e. bushes, trees, and grasses of varying heights). I also added the Powerworks 60V due to its convenient folding handle for vertical storage and easy height adjustments. A total of 6 cutting surfaces on the Snapper Ninja's blade ensure finely-ground mulch, while the Briggs and Stratton engine allows it to chop effortlessly through tall and heavy grass. Also added the Sun Joe MJ403E due to its 13-amp motor, wide cutting path, and quick-conversion capabilities between traditional mowing and mulching applications. Finally, I included the Jonsered L2821 for its dual-trigger control system, 9 cutting height positions, and the integrated water hose connector for keeping the deck clean.
