The 9 Best Papasan Chairs
Editor's Notes
August 30, 2019:
If you're looking for a durable chair that's comfortable enough to nap or read in for a few hours, the Rattan Wicker Furniture Colonial definitely fits the bill. The frame is handmade by craftsmen from natural rattan, a sustainable material that's both lightweight and sturdy, and, unlike most others, the cushion has straps that secure it to the base to prevent it from shifting around. The OSP Designs has a swiveling metal base that's wrapped in resin wicker. Its tufted cushion is five inches deep and comes in a wide range of colors to match any decor. Perfect for decks, patios, and poolsides, the Outdoor Collection Lounge can withstand rain and intense sun without fading or warping. With its slender metal legs and velvet upholstery, the Tov Furniture Nolan blends modern and 1970s styles, making it a great accent piece. However, at just 32 inches wide, it's not the best choice if you want a chair you can curl up in.
While not traditional, we've also included a few options with folding bases that collapse for compact storage when you're not using them. They're great for dorm rooms, small apartments, or providing extra seating when you have guests over. The Urban Shop Saucer weighs less than 15 pounds and comes at a very affordable price of less than $50. Note, though, that despite being advertised as "oversized," it's smaller than most traditional papasan chairs. The KingCamp Leisure is great for camping or sitting around a bonfire and has a built-in cooler bag to help keep your drinks chilled. It's made from rugged and wear-resistant materials, but the seat is only about 14 inches off the ground, so tall users may find it uncomfortable.
