The Home Depot While it might seem like a no-brainer, The Home Depot has a great selection of urn planters made from a range of materials, many of which have been decently vetted by other customers. Since they've got plenty of brick and mortar stores, you could even go out and take a look at your options in person before settling. homedepot.com

Editor's Notes

June 11, 2021:

We're happy to report that our previous selections are all still great choices. Both the Novelty Grecian and Novelty Classic are as simple and affordable as they come and are engineered to resist damage from the elements. If you want some taller and a bit more elegant, consider the H Potter Rustic or FCMP Outdoor Heritage. Alternatively, the Christopher Knight Moroccan is made from real stone and is actually quite reasonably priced for such high-quality material.

March 22, 2020:

If you aren’t purchasing artificial plants or trees to go along with your urn planter, don’t forget to make a checklist of handy items that might help you along. While you don’t necessarily need a whole gardening kit to get the job done, you should consider getting a small trowel for shoveling soil so you don’t end up using a large spoon or cake slicer like I always find myself doing when planting. If you’re planting multiple items in one or several urns and want to keep track, using garden markers never hurts.

While the FCMP Outdoor Heritage and H Potter Rustic stretch the definition of “urn” when it comes to planters, both share many of the traits that define the genre, and would be used in essentially the same situations, fulfilling the same function, so it felt like they wanted to be on the list. While I would have liked to include more designs with attractive relief work such as the Christopher Knight Moroccan, verifying the quality and reception of many offerings proved difficult.
