This wiki has been updated 29 times since it was first published in March of 2016. It is common sense to wear gear that increases your visibility when out walking or jogging at night, so motorists can spot you easily. The same is true for your canine companion, so get him or her one of these reflective dog vests. They'll ensure everyone on the road can see your furry friend, even after the sun has gone down or on foggy days. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. The Noxgear LightHound Though on the pricier end for this type of product, this harness is well worth the cost. Fluorescent lights cover the majority of the item, and can be set to different colors and flashing modes, making it nearly impossible for passersby to miss your pup. Plus, its LEDs have a 12-hour battery life, so you won't need to stop for a recharge in the middle of a hike, and it's suitable for all types of weather. Noxgear.com

Sleepypod Clickit Terrain If your dog rides along in the car regularly, then you can appreciate the double duty that this item performs. In addition to acting as a regular dog harness, it can also click into your vehicle's seat belt system to keep Fido safe in an accident. It's undergone extensive crash testing, is well-cushioned, and easy to put on and take off. Plus, it has reflective strips which can be replaced with service dog patches if necessary. Sleepypod.com

Editor's Notes

July 19, 2019:

Although these reflective vests are for the good of your pets, they don't know that, which is why we had to make sure our selections are also comfortable and won't hinder the movement of animals. The Petflect Reflective PF-VL is lightweight, so pets won't overheat while wearing this shiny accessory in warm weather, and the front panel on the Bolux DC112 sits intentionally just below the neck, so it's a good choice for pets who pull too much and can often choke themselves.

We also considered all of the conditions in which pet owners might take their animals out at night, which is why the EzyDog Flotation Device made our list. It's a life jacket with reflective features and is essential for dog owners who take their pets on boating trips. We also added the Illumiseen Safety Jacket, which has LED bulbs, knowing that sometimes, when external light sources aren't present, simple reflective stripes aren't enough to improve visibility.

Since outsiders aren't always the only hazard, and some pets pose risks to themselves by being leash aggressive or too hyper, we also included the ThinkPet No Pull and the Blueberry Pet Summer Hope 3M Harness. These have reflective elements, but also give pet owners better control of their dogs and work with most leash types, from classic stationary to retractable ones.
