The Perfect Pod Café Save takes over as the pick for most people. It's a cheap four-pack with the longest brewer list we saw for a single-needle pod, and its maker has sold these for years. The Keurig My K-Cup stays, now in the redesigned version that Keurig says fits all of its machines.
The biggest change is fit. Keurig's K-Supreme machines and the newer K-Slim pierce pods with five needles, and the old list had nothing for them. The PureHQ Supreme and Fanativita 5-Hole fill that gap, and the PureHQ K-Duo Set covers the K-Duo's carafe.
We dropped the iPartsPlusMore Mesh and the Fill N Save Carafe because of availability concerns. The Froz-Cup, the other iPartsPlusMore pods, both GoodCups sets and the Sikawai no longer turn up as current, and the Perfect Pod Eco-Fill gave way to the same maker's Café Save.
Evidence here is thin in a specific way. Nobody publishes lab tests of reusable pods, so we read each maker's brewer-by-brewer fit chart, since that's where most returns start, and looked for the recurring owner complaints: weak coffee, grit and pods that won't seat.

We removed Fill N Save Elite, Youngever Universal, and Di Oro Premium due to availability concerns and replaced them with the Sikawai 119367, GoodCups Rainbow, and iPartsPlusMore Universal Fit respectively. Similar to the Youngever Universal, the Sikawai 119367 comes in a variety of colors making it a great option if you make a lot of different beverages in your pod coffee maker, or live in a house with other coffee drinkers. The different colors make it easy to designate colors to either specific beverages, or certain people in your household. The iPartsPlusMore Universal Fit is a good addition because it is dishwasher safe, making deep-cleaning a cinch.

Plus, they allow you to enjoy the flavor of freshly ground beans that standard K Cups cannot provide you with.
Joining the selection in this update is the iPartsPlusMore 2 Pack which, unlike many others, comes with a set of unbleached, biodegradable paper filters. While some coffee drinkers don’t mind sediment from the filter making its way into their drink (where it tends to settle on the bottom, anyway), others consider it a nuisance. These filters will keep any grounds from leeching into your beverage, ensuring a smooth morning cup of joe. The pods that come with this set are made of durable plastic that’s free of BPA, as well as long-lasting micromesh filters.
Leaving the list today is the Di Oro MaxBrew, which essentially was a duplicate of the smaller pod that’s part of the Di Oro Premium set, which currently fills our number two spot.

Count The Needles Before You Buy
Those need a pod with a five-hole lid, like the PureHQ Supreme or Fanativita 5-Hole.
A reusable K-Cup works only if its lid matches the needle that pierces it. Lift the brewer's handle and look at the underside of the lid. One needle means almost any pod on this list will do. That covers the K-Classic, K-Elite, K-Select, K-Compact, K-Mini, K-Express, the first K-Duo and older 2.0 models. Five needles mean a MultiStream brewer: the K-Supreme, K-Supreme Plus, newer K-Slim, K-Brew+Chill and K-Duo Hot & Iced Gen 2. Those need a pod with a five-hole lid, like the PureHQ Supreme or Fanativita 5-Hole. Smart-series machines and the K-Crema are left out by nearly every third-party maker, so Keurig's own My K-Cup is the one to try there.
Older listings that warn against Keurig 2.0 date from 2014, when 2.0 brewers rejected pods without Keurig's lid marking. Shoppers fought back, and Keurig dropped the lock-out in 2015, with its CEO admitting the company got it wrong (TechCrunch; First We Feast). Today the needle count matters, not the 2.0 label. Grind, Fill And Brew Settings
Weak coffee is the top complaint about reusable pods, and it almost always comes down to grind and fill. Use a medium to medium-fine grind, about what a drip machine takes. Espresso-fine coffee clogs the mesh and can overflow, while a coarse grind runs through too fast and tastes thin. Coffee retailers suggest one to two level tablespoons, filled to the line or just under the rim (Corner Coffee Store; Majesty Coffee).
Tap the pod to settle the grounds, but don't pack them. Packed or overfilled coffee keeps the lid from closing and can push grounds into the mug. Choose a small or medium cup size on the brewer. A pod holds about as much coffee as a disposable one, so the largest setting waters it down. If grit bothers you, a small paper liner inside the pod catches the fines; Perfect Pod and Fanativita both say their pods work with one. Loose tea works too (Di Oro).
Steel Or Plastic, Cleaning And Safety
All-steel pods, like the Noalto Stainless, Rethone Stainless and Capmesso Dual-Mesh, hold up to scrubbing and never touch your coffee with plastic, apart from a lid or seal. Plastic-body pods, like the Perfect Pod Café Save and Keurig My K-Cup, cost less and stay cool to handle, but hinges and lids can wear. Several makers call their plastic parts BPA-free. That's the maker's claim, and we found no independent certificate for any third-party pod.
Knock out the grounds after each cup, rinse the mesh, and let the pod dry. Grounds left in the mesh dry hard and block it. Most of these pods can go on the top rack of a dishwasher, according to their makers. A steel pod is hot right after brewing, so give it a minute before you open it. A search of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall database found no recall of any reusable pod. Copies of the My K-Cup are sold online, and RealHomes suggests checking the packaging and seller.
How we researched this
We compared 20 reusable pods and filters, read the brewer fit charts, materials and care notes for the 9 picks, looked for patterns in owner feedback such as weak coffee, grit and pods that won't seat, and checked every brand for recalls with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. We found no independent lab test of reusable K-Cups. The 3D models are built from published dimensions.

Will a reusable K-Cup fit my Keurig?
Check the needle under the brewer's lid. One needle takes most reusable pods; five needles, as on the K-Supreme and newer K-Slim, need a pod with a five-hole lid. Then confirm your model is on the maker's fit list.
Do reusable K-Cups work in the K-Supreme?
Only five-hole pods, such as the PureHQ Supreme or Fanativita 5-Hole. One-hole pods won't brew properly in it. Most third-party pods exclude the K-Supreme Smart.
What grind should I use in a reusable K-Cup?
Medium to medium-fine, similar to drip coffee. Espresso-fine grounds clog the mesh, and coarse grounds make weak coffee.
Why is my coffee weak from a reusable pod?
