Editor's Notes

December 15, 2020:

There is a wide variety of dinosaur toys out there, with varying target age ranges, levels of complexity, price points, and more. We made sure to cover as much ground as possible in this update.

The WowWee Miposaur and Meccano Meccasaur were removed due to availability concerns. The Dino Planet Spinosaurus was removed due to durability issues.

Added two options that help kids master fine motor skills and teach them how to put things together. The Rokr Wooden is a 3-D puzzle with electronic components that results in a toy that can be controlled via clapping sounds. The Beestech Walking comes with a kid-friendly plastic screwdriver that can be used to disassemble and reassemble the pieces of the robot, giving curious kids an outlet for tendencies that might otherwise result in broken household appliances.

We also made sure to pick some options that appeal to younger kids. A good choice for toddlers, the Learning Journey ABC dances to traditional children's songs and even has a built-in educational game where kids can try their hand at answering the dino's questions. The FurReal Hoppin' Topper is a cuddly plush option with big cute eyes that should appeal to little ones looking for a friendly robotic pet.

With a more complex remote than most, the Fistone Intelligent has several features, from pre-set modes that make it fight and dance to programmable actions and functions. It also allows you to control the volume, a feature that many electronic toys lack, much to the dismay of parents.

January 25, 2019:

Tried to find a variety of dinosaur species (unsurprisingly, T-Rex is by far the most common). Also made sure there was a mix of simple toys for young children and more complex options that can hold the attention of older kids & teens. This mostly involves how many functions it has. A 4-year-old will be satisfied with an easy-to-use, two-button remote, while a 12-year-old will get bored if there isn't more to do.
