The 10 Best Smart Diffusers

Updated December 16, 2020 by Sheila O'Neill

This wiki has been updated 25 times since it was first published in December of 2017. Many people combat both bad smells and stress with essential oils. But if you're putting your peppermint and lavender into a traditional device, you may find yourself constantly getting up to adjust the settings. These smart diffusers make that inconvenience a thing of the past. They are WiFi-enabled, so you can control them with an app or via a digital assistant, like Alexa. When users buy our independently chosen editorial picks, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. If you'd like to contribute your own research to Ezvid Wiki, please get started by reviewing this introductory video.

Editor's Notes

December 11, 2020:

We removed the Yeshow Essential, as the app had a number of issues and the unit itself only had one button, meaning there was very little a user could control without using the app. The Queence Galaxy Globe, Moodo Home Fragrance, and Geeni Spirit were removed due to availability concerns.

New to the list, the Laopao Night Light features a faux wood grain that can fool many at first glance and a unique "carved" design on top that's sure to be a conversation piece. The Maxcio Ultrasonic has a flat top and removable legs, allowing it to double as a side table. If you care more about function than appearance, the Levoit Classic 200S might be a good choice. Mainly designed to function as a humidifier, it has a 4-liter tank and can be programmed to turn off automatically when a certain level of humidity is reached. To add essential oils, simply put a few drops on one of the included pads and put it in a small drawer on the side of the unit.

While filling the air with essential oils can be a soothing experience for humans, many oils can be harmful for pets. If you have a furry friend in your home, make sure to check with your vet before using your diffuser around them and do your research carefully when deciding which oils to use.

We understand that any time you add something to your home, you want it to mesh well with your existing decor. For that reason, we have included many different types of designs on this list. If you love wood grain, then you'll want to consider the Sierra Modern Home 400ml and InnoGear Cool Mist Wifi. Not only do both of these models look great, but they also function reliably and neither costs an arm and a leg. If you prefer just a touch of wood grain to accent the style of your diffuser, but want it to have a more modern appearance overall, check out the Asakuki DF010 and Queence Galaxy Globe, the latter of which has a very striking visual aesthetic. Those who prefer a clean, white design will appreciate the Vococlinic FlowerBud, Emoi H0027, Yeshow Essential, and Geeni Spirit.

Most diffusers use liquid essential oils that you need to mix with water yourself for their fragrance, but the Moodo Home Fragrance and Aera Microdroplet are very different. These models use replaceable scent capsules that make for very convenient operation. You won't have to worry about filling them with water and can simply run them as often as you like until the scent capsule runs dry. The major downside to these two models is that the capsules are proprietary and buying new ones can get rather costly.
