The 10 Best Soda Makers
Editor's Notes
February 28, 2020:
Home soda makers are better for both you and the environment than store-bought varieties. They don't have any chemical additives or flavors, unless you choose to add them of course, and allow you to reuse the same plastic or glass carafe again and again. They also cut down on supply chain emissions.
One of the easiest to operate is probably the SodaStream Fizzi One-Touch, which is a completely automated model. Simply select your desired level and push the carbonation button. The machine will do all the rest of the work.
When it comes to pleasing aesthetics, three float to the top of the list. The Aarke Carbonator II has an attractive, vintage-inspired design that most would be happy to show off. It also offers a compact form, so it won't take up too much room on your counter. The KitchenAid Sparkling Beverage Maker has a retro chic style, looking like an appliance you might have found in the average home in the 50s, but with a few modern touches. When it comes to whimsy, the SodaStream Penguin is an obvious choice, looking very much like everyone's favorite flightless bird.
Considering that the SodaStream brand is synonymous with these machines and one of the first to bring them to the mass market, it should be no surprise that they claimed quite a few spots on our list. Of these, the SodaStream Fizzi is the most affordable, however we like that the SodaStream Fizzi One-Touch is automated, and the SodaStream Aqua Fizz includes glass carafes, as does the aforementioned Penguin.
If you are looking for something portable that you can take to an outdoor picnic, and which is small enough to store in the average kitchen cabinet, we recommend you consider the Drinkmate Spritzer and iSi Soda Siphon.
