The 10 Best Travel Size Flat Irons

Updated August 25, 2020 by Brett Dvoretz

This wiki has been updated 24 times since it was first published in December of 2016. Looking your best while on the road doesn't have to mean packing a heavy suitcase full of bulky appliances. These travel size flat irons can get just as much done as larger hair straighteners but are easy to transport, as well as manage. We included models with many of the technologies found in professional styling tools, like tourmaline and ceramic plates that eliminate frizz and minimize damage. When users buy our independently chosen editorial recommendations, we may earn commissions to help fund the Wiki. Editor's Notes

August 22, 2020:

We strived to create a list of travel size flat irons that are just as effective as their full-size competitors, since, just because someone is on the road, doesn't mean their styling needs to change. We also looked for features that make beautifying oneself when away from a full arsenal of appliances and supplies just a little a bit easier.

When you need to tame very kinky locks or get through thick strands, the BaBylissPro Nano, which reaches 440 degrees, can get the job done and won't leave you missing a standard straightener. The Lovani Mini Worldwide reaches 410 degrees, so it can also smooth out curls and frizz rapidly. We removed the Croc-FBG Mini during this update because it sometimes struggles to reach or maintain its full temperature, which can make it rather ineffective, especially on thick hair. Though we liked that the Himaly Dual Voltage X01 has three heat settings, we didn't like the fact that its battery doesn't hold a charge for long, so we eliminated it.

If you want the freedom to wear multiple styles while traveling, you may appreciate that the AmoVee 2-In-1 and the 6th Sense Nano 55 both have built-in curling tools, so there's no need to pack an additional appliance. The AmoVee 2-In-1 also stood out because of its swivel cord, which makes it easy to use and manipulate as needed.

When operating such a small tool, there can be concerns of losing a handle on it. Luckily, the Conair MiniPro and the My Hair Dresser Berta Professional have textured grips. Since these items are meant to be transported, we added the Amika Mini Ceramic Styler Obliphica, because we like its matching carrying case. Two others that come with cases are the aforementioned 6th Sense Nano 55 and AmoVee 2-In-1

March 21, 2019:

When it comes to beautifying on-the-go, hair appliances that consider the twists and turns of travel, the last-minute invitations, and the potentially small spaces to actually do one's hair are critical. That's why the Himaly Dual Voltage X01 got our number one spot, since it's a cordless model that gives you the freedom to move around as you style and means being away from a wall outlet is no problem. In fact, this one can plug into your laptop or car adapter when it needs a recharge. Being away from your full arsenal of beauty tools shouldn't have to mean giving up the look you want, so we also added the AmoVee 2 in 1, the Bluetop MF0002, and the 6th Sense Styling Technology Nano, each of which both curl and flatten. We know that when it comes to the heat, some people prefer a more moderate temperature to minimize breakage, so we added the MHD MHU Professional, which automatically rises to a moderate but effective 356 degrees. But we also understand that some people don't want to be held back in their styling efforts and need to get a handle on some truly unruly curls. For them, there's the Croc-FBG Mini, which reaches 430 degrees.
