May 28, 2020:
According to the TSA's 3-1-1 rule, travelers can carry liquids or gels in tubes of up to 3.4 ounces, so we've looked for travel toothpastes that are at or under this threshold. This size ensures they fit into your toiletry organizer, too. We selected both standard choices that contain fluoride and natural options that do not; keep in mind that fluoride-free options may not work as well to prevent tooth decay over the long term. Many natural choices, however, do not contain ingredients that users may be allergic to, such as flavorings, making them a go-to for some.
As for top choices, Sensodyne Repair & Protect, for those who have very sensitive teeth, as well as Colgate Total and Crest Pro-Health are ones to consider. These are tried-and-true choices in small quantities that are fine for your carry-on. If you are worried about keeping your teeth white, Arm & Hammer Advance White is a good choice, too, especially since the baking soda helps your mouth feel fresh. Pair these with a travel toothbrush, and you should have a clean mouth for the duration of your trip.
If you're looking for a natural choice, the popular Tom's of Maine Natural Antiplaque and Weleda Salt should both be on your radar. They may not be as sweet as you're used to, and, in fact, the latter tastes downright salty. For a flavorless alternative, there's Cleure Original. It contains xylitol, which can inhibit bacteria growth, but is dangerous to animals — so keep it safely out of reach of your pets.
