Editor's Notes

August 07, 2020:

Treasure chests filled with pirate treasures do exist, however, they are not as common as Hollywood would have us believe. Storage chests, on the other hand, have been around since Egyptian times at least, and were even included in their ceremonial burial practices, and had intricate carving, inlaid jewels, and metal gilding. The traditional style that comes to mind, with a curved lid, was more a matter of practicality and was thus designed to allow water to run off its top. Additionally, a leather, waxed, or oiled covering was used to preserve the wood. Nowadays chests are still a popular furniture item in homes and, depending on their size, make good collectibles, jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes, linen boxes and can even be repurposed as coffee tables, not to mention the excitement they can evoke in a child's mind.

Due to their artistic nature, treasure chests make ideal gifts for young and old alike. The DeLeon Collections Trinket Box and the Ebros Gift Caribbean particularly stand out as they are small intricately made boxes with pirate-themed motifs that are sure to delight children and enthusiastic collectors. The WaaHome Pirate Box, similarly, will capture the imagination of young ones, and comes with a treasure map, gold coins, and a skull and crossbones ring. Midsize chests are perfect for holding a whole array of personal items, and work well as jewelry boxes. The Wooden Stash Box and the Nautical Cove Keepsake Box both have masculine elements and would look good on a nightstand as a handy place to keep keys, wallets, and pocket change. The PRH Vintage Trinket Case and the NOVICA Colonial are both hand-made to a very high standard, using the finest hardwoods, and as such will provide a suitable home for your most valuable possessions. The largest chests selected for this ranking are the Nautical Cove Storage Box and the Hurrise Vintage. These are well made and extremely versatile, and will make an eye-catching addition to any decor.
